About the Schroth method
The Schroth method is a method to treat scoliosis and kyphosis. It is officially recognized by the international scientific communities of SRS (Scoliosis Research Society) and SOSORT (Society on Scoliosis Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Treatment) and constitutes the most scientifically proven treatment approach.
The exercises of the Schroth method are differentiated from other methods, provide a customized treatment approach for scoliosis and are completely different than any general or standard physical exercises. The impression that for scoliosis we simply strengthen the muscles of one side (the curved part) and relax the muscles of the opposite side is completely wrong and without any scientific grounds.
The Schroth method aims at the three-dimensional treatment of scoliosis through a three-dimensional auto-correction, self-elongation, and education to maintain the corrected position.
The selection of special exercises and their application to scoliosis is made based on the evaluation and the type of the condition for each individual separately. We cannot treat all types of scoliosis in the same way and the program of exercises is different from one individual to another.
The Schroth method can be applied:
- to scoliosis (all types regardless of the degrees, for children and adults)
- post-operatively (after a surgery to correct scoliosis)
- in combination with a scoliosis brace
- to kyphosis
